Improving Reading Skills with Adults - Arizona Department of Corrections Results

My Reading Coach is used in many settings other than traditional public schools. The program is unique because it's adaptable to students with diverse educational backgrounds. For example the following graph reveals data from a pilot program at the Arizona Department of Corrections. The Correctional Education Programs Teacher said, "It was clearly evident by the attitude and effort of the inmates that they were ACTUALLY LEARNING!"

She also observed that as their reading skills increased, so did their self-esteem. For example one of the students, a 39 year-old Navajo male, had lived on the Navajo Reservation and had been in "Special Ed" until he dropped out in the 8th grade. My Reading Coach (formerly Larrabee's Bridge to Literacy) was the first task this student had been able to successfully accomplish in any curriculum.
