My Reading Coach

Parent Comments on My Reading Coach
(Formerly "Larrabee's Bridge to Adult Literacy™")

"We, the parents of Christopher, want to thank you for the doors you have opened for our son. We always knew that he had a reading deficiency and had pursued many avenues to have the causes diagnosed. A psychotherapist once told us that he would never be capable of adequately processing language. But he developed survival strategies and made it through middle school. At first, he was reluctant about the instruction. We think this was because he knew he could not read very well and had little faith that the program would help. But over time the complaining ceased and a sense of pride began to appear. Now he tells us about the difficult words he can read and spell. Christopher had grades of 'D' throughout middle school and also received a 'D' in freshman English in summer school. This past quarter he received a 'B' in English at Rincon [High School]."

"All three of my boys have ADHD, and I have been impressed with the improvement each has made in reading and spelling with Mr. Larrabee, the Reading Coach. Mr. Larrabee is very positive in the way he teaches and very encouraging if they get something wrong.

Robert went from not reading to reading full books. In addition, his spelling has improved. Robert enjoys reading now and he's not reading just because I'm asking him to, he's reading because he wants to! I noticed as he learned the rules, his spelling also improved.

Joshua had been through two different programs at school... After both of these other programs, Joshua had not experienced any noticeable improvement. Then, I got him on the Larrabee program, and it is helping him because now he has the strategies and he knows why things are spelled the way they are. I've also noticed that his reading, spelling and handwriting have all improved.

Brandon was starting in the second grade and could maybe read 20 sight words when he started the program. I was very concerned about him. I was told by the school that he had low average intelligence, and he had been placed in a special reading program for non-readers. Now, he is way ahead of the other students, the difference being he is learning to read with Jim Larrabee. Brandon's teacher is noticing the difference and asking questions about what he's doing. Now, Brandon is teaching me the rules as he reads to me. I definitely recommend My Reading Coach."

"I had her in other reading programs but it wasn't working. She was still hesitant and sad with no self-confidence when it came to reading. I needed to find a solution -- Joie was 12 and would be in high school soon. I decided the Larrabee program might work because Jim was a speech pathologist. He seemed to understand language development and analysis and speech problems. He is known for breaking language down slowly. Joie loved working on the program. And yes, there is a difference! She is reading fluently. She is reading for pleasure. Before she never did."
